Choosing your dreams will not make you fail as a mom and wife

Save it for later!

I wish somebody had told me this 20 years ago… I would have reached my goals faster, lived a happier life and had more confidence in my abilities.

“Choosing your dreams will not make you fail as a mom and wife.”

Because the world only talks about serving, or helping others get what they want, people generally frown upon anyone who wants to succeed for themselves.

It is not about being just a woman but men experience this too.

If you talk about your dreams, people shut off and get uncomfortable. They don’t want to hear it. They just don’t want to see you succeed.

Wish you could be more productive?

Because they see it as your success meaning their failure. Sad but true.

They had those dreams too. But someone told them that chasing our dreams meant failing at relationships or responsibilities.

It is like when a child wants to craft or build a cushion castle but mothers fear the clutter so they will yell at the child to keep the room clean. The child sees creativity as his inability to keep an adult happy. For as long as he is a child, he will try to rebel and build anyway, but when he grows up he sees creativity as affecting not just relationships but also responsibilities.

Well meaning adults around him told him how artists die hungry and carpenters don’t earn much and that how his only way forward is an engineering degree.

But that he should get an engineering degree so he can get a job because by the time he graduates he will need money to get married and then he will need money to give his family a life.

Imagine when that child is a girl. She is told you shouldn’t pursue your job or a business because you need to concentrate on family.

    Relationships and responsibilities once again…

Is it wrong to want to keep your family and home happy and healthy? Of course not.

That is not the right question to ask. The real question is : But are you so focussed on keeping your home and family happy that your happiness and joy is taking the back seat?

Are you happy to be unhappy?

Are you okay with living with “if only..”?

Here’s what I want you to remember:

Choosing your dreams will not make you fail as a mom and wife.

You don’t need to conform to other people’s definition of success. Create your own.

What I learnt about dreams and success in 20 years of being a wife and mom

A mother who is working on her dreams raises children who have ambitions.

A wife who is working on her dreams, ignites passion and purpose in her husband.

A woman who works on her dreams, raises the bar for those who are directly impacted by her presence.

When you choose to do big things in life, you impact the thinking of everyone around you.

Yes possibly, they will not say it on your face that they admire you, but they will be impacted. Your job is not to change their lives or their thinking. Your job is to work on your own dreams.
